Social/Emotional Skills

Guided by state and national student standards, counseling services support student development of academic and social/emotional skills necessary to be successful in a globally connected world. We are committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive environment where all students can thrive.

Elementary and secondary programs incorporate foundational competencies throughout the educational journey to promote lifelong learning. Targets create learning opportunities that support knowledge and skill development across key areas:

  • Self-Awareness & Management: Assisting students in understanding emotions, developing personal resilience, and utilizing healthy coping mechanisms.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Fostering empathy, clear communication, active listening habits, and positive peer conflict resolution.
  • Responsible Decision-Making: Supporting students as they evaluate choices, consider ethical standards, and make productive personal choices.

Integrating these focus areas into daily school routines ensures students gain essential competencies for postsecondary readiness. Counselors work in close coordination with families and guardians to prepare students for academic achievement and personal success.

Student Mental Health Support (Section 31n)

We offer free, school-based mental health services through Michigan's Section 31n funding to support our students' well-being.

Our licensed specialist provides early intervention and short-term counseling for general education students experiencing mild-to-moderate stress, anxiety, or behavioral concerns. These voluntary services focus on building coping skills and resilience right here at school.
