Hoop House
Currently, lettuce, mixed greens, swiss chard, cilantro, mint, sage, and tomatoes are growing in the hoop house. At the beginning of October, students planted radishes, beets, and carrots. We hope to incorporate as much produce as possible from the hoop house into the cafeteria for “Try It Local Mondays.” Students plan to harvest and deliver produce to the kitchen on Monday mornings. Terra Bogart, nutrition facilitator from Northwest Education Services, is working with elementary teachers again this year supporting the LifeSPAN (Life Sustaining Physical Activity and Nutrition) program. Additionally, two VISTA Americorps members working with the ISD will be in our school throughout the year in an effort to improve and strengthen farm to school programming.
